September 30, 2015

Dear Families,
We reviewed what we have been learning about temperature!
We played a fun game on the computer to see if we could read thermometers right! (Hyrum)
We cheered for Corbin and wrote his I like poster! (Kenna)
This morning we went to computer lab! (Jaxson) Thank you for doing Raz Kids at home because a lot of our kids knew how to log on today!
We highlighted words in our poems that started with the letters i and u. (Alicia)
In writers workshop we started revising our stories. We worked on adding more words to our stories!
In math we counted to measure time. (Eric) We also reviewed how we use tally marks. Do Home Link 5-9 for extra practice! 
We watched a short video of healthy habits and discussed some exercise skills we can and can't do!

*Tomorrow is Jog-A-Thon and donations are due! Please make sure your child is wearing appropriate shoes and gets plenty of rest!

Dear Families,
Today we talked about brushing our teeth! (Jaxson)
We practiced writing the letters u and i correctly. (Hyrum)
In writers workshop we discussed how we can get ideas to write from our observations! 
We used our class number grid to play a number game then practiced writing numbers. (Anthony)
We used thermometers to measure temperature of objects in our room! (Stella)

*Please continue to collect money for Jog-A-Thon! Money is due this Thursday on Jog-A-Thon day!
If you are volunteering at Jog-A-Thon, please come to our classroom at 11:50am! We can go over our plan at that time!

Dear Families,
We went to PE this morning! (Cash)
We also took our fall pictures! (Arianna)
Today we talked about the letters i and u. (Jada) We found out they are vowels and make 2 sounds!
We are learning ways we can keep our bodies healthy. (Iris) Exercise, brushing our teeth, and washing our hands/body are some of the ways we will explore this week!
In math we practiced using our 100 chart! (Eric) It can also be called a number grid.
We went outside and felt objects to see their temperature! (Annie)

Notes/Reminders:
*Today we had a really long discussion on being nice and respectful to others. Ms. Allison has been noticing our friends being unkind repeatedly to others to the point that they are getting upset or crying. We talked about this possibily being seen as the beginning of bullying. PLEASE talk with your child because this behavior will not be tolerated.
*Please continue to collect money for Jog-A-Thon! Money is due this Thursday on Jog-A-Thon day!

We put our photos in our writing workshop folders!
We practiced counting by 5's! We also used counters to help us compare numbers.
We went to the ABL lab! (Alicia)

Today we drew a picture of weather we saw coming to school in the morning. (Rachel)
We compared our weather today to yesterday!
We found words that start with m and n in our poetry folders! (Josie)
We read the story Hello Ocean. (Eric) The author wrote the story about a favoite place. We can write about our favorite places too!
We practiced writing numbers today! (Kenna)
Practicing number and letter writing frequently at home would be so helpful for our kids!
We read the story Pea and talked about vegetables! (Jack)

Dear Families,
We are learning about the letters m and n! (Annie) We practiced writing them correctly.
We read the story The Missing Tooth! (Iris) It is about a little girl wanting to loose a tooth and all her friends are loosing teeth! 
We found out that writers write about memories of past events. The Missing Tooth was an example.
We practiced counting on from different numbers! (Skyler) Most of our kids can count easily starting at 0 but starting in random places was much difficult!
We learned about the bread group today! (Ariana) We are using our nutrition pictures from home to learn about the food groups.

We made a class graph of our favorite colors. Blue won! (Jada)
We read the story A Bad Case of Stripes. (Hyrum) 
It was about a little girl who always tried to please others at her own expense. We discussed how we should feel proud to be ourselves!
We practiced counting by 10's and learned a new card game called Top It! (Xavier) 
Home link 3-15 AND 4-2 can be done to practice these new skills at home!
We also reviewed what we have learned about feelings this week!

Today we talked about the constitution! (Annie)
We signed our classroom agreement like the leaders signed the constitution to show that we agreed to follow our class expectations!
In writers workshop, we learned that we could write about things we know a lot about! (Jada)
We played a number game called Monster Squeeze in math today. (Eric) Do home link 3-6 to play this game at home! 
We talked about feelings by looking at photographs and deciding how they were feeling! (Jack)
We went to the Jog-A-Thon assembly! (Mia) (See below)

We got to go to music today! (Iris)

Then we made our own version of the story using our favorite color!
We went to the computer lab too! (Ariana)
We highlighted words in our letter b and f poems that started with b and f! (Cash)
We played a fun domino game that helped us practice counting! (Skyler)
We looked at our feelings pictures and sorted them into groups!

Reminders:
*Now that we are going to specials in the mornings it is really important our kids are at school on time. On mornings we go to specials we get to those classes at 8:50am. If students are late, they are missing all or most of their time. Thanks so much!
*Tomorrow is Constitution day! If your child has a patriotic shirt or a red, white, and/or blue shirt they could wear it tomorrow!

We had a busy day!
Ms. Alex talked to us about balance this morning. (Josie)
She works at the Tulsa Childrens Museum! We explored through games, how we can make healthy, balanced choices! 
We got our eyes and ears checked today! (Megan)
(I don't know results from these tests and it most likely will be a while until the nurses will share results. I will pass on any information when the nurses give them to me. They may even notify you directly.)
We played a number game using dice and a number board.

We heard the story Chrysanthemum and talked about how hurtful our words can be when we say unkind things to others.

*If you are still interested in Jenks Joggers fill out the bottom portion and return to school promptly. It is filling up fast! I turned in all forms brought to school today!

We heard the story Diary of a Spider before writers workshop! (Corbin) We are learning how our own stories can be made into a book!
We talked about little numbers. (Stella) We practiced counting numbers 1-9. Do Home Link 1-5 to practice numbers at home!
We read the story David Goes to School and discussed appropriate choices a lot today. Now that we are starting to get adjusted behaviors are starting to occur. Thank you for reinforcing how we behave at school.
We made our faces with construction paper, markers, and a paper plate! (Jada) These will be displayed on our bulletin board!
